For many years, the Food Bank has hosted demonstration gardens that provide fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs to local organizations serving the community. Incredible volunteers from all walks of life have tilled the land outside Food Bank branches, nurturing crops that ultimately reach families throughout the region. Whether you’re new to our gardens or a dedicated volunteer, we can’t thank you enough for the support and commitment that makes this work possible.
Unfortunately, federal and state budget cuts have deeply impacted hunger relief organizations across North Carolina — forcing a wave of difficult decisions around staffing and programs. Even so, we remain deeply committed to ensuring access to fresh, locally-grown produce in the community. And as we are excited to share a new partnership with our longtime friends at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle that will keep our Raleigh Community Garden strong for years to come.
Beginning in July, the Food Shuttle team will take on management of our Community Garden, including volunteer scheduling and coordination. Food Shuttle has long worked to empower neighbors to cultivate their own food, fostering stronger and more resilient food systems along the way. By blending sustainable agriculture practices with community education and engagement, these programs enhance farming efficiency and reduce waste.
We’re all focused on ensuring a sustainable future for hunger relief efforts in our region, and Inter-faith Food Shuttle is uniquely positioned to bring our garden programs to the next level. Community volunteers are the cornerstone of this work, and we hope you’ll get involved!
If you’d like to weigh in on pending government policy and investment decisions, there’s still time to make your voice heard!
