This Morning at Breakfast

2015-07-02T11:23:49-04:00

This morning these children ate their breakfast at a Kids Summer Meals site in Durham. Their favorite part of the meal? Pouring the milk into the cereal. After they finished eating, they got to go outside and play. A boy finishes his cereal while sitting next to his brother at a Kids Summer Meals site. [...]

One More Lunch till Summer

2015-06-07T20:01:48-04:00

On the final day of the school year, many children in school will fidget in their desks, anxiously awaiting their beloved summer break. But 175,000 children across central & eastern North Carolina have something else on their mind: Will my family have enough food to eat this summer? Just over 300,000 (1 in 5) children in our 34 county service area depend on the meals provided by their school as their primary source of food. For so many of them, the breakfast served in their classroom, the free meal at lunchtime, and the two days worth of food given to them every Friday are a lifeline.

What is a partner agency anyway?

2014-10-03T14:50:39-04:00

A partner agency is our umbrella term for nonprofits such as food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior centers, and other organizations that provide emergency food assistance to people in need. These agencies are on the front lines of hunger, directly providing food and other human services to their community. Across our 34 county service [...]
