'Canes Stars Urge Hockey Fans to Take Action in #GoalToEndHunger Challenge

The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation presented the Food Bank with a $50,0000 grant for our Stop Summer Hunger initiative at the Stanley Cup Final!

This grant will provide 150,000 meals for local children and families during the summer months when kids no longer have easy access to breakfast and lunch at school.

We send our sincere thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation, which has presented a donation during each round of the 2026 NHL playoffs that the Hurricanes have reached, bringing $200,000 into local community organizations!

Join the Canes Foundation By Supporting Stop Summer Hunger

For every $1 donated, the Food Bank can source enough food to fuel 3 meals — far more than any of us could purchase as an individual consumer. And with all donations matched through July 31, every dollar translates to 6 meals! For more information, please visit StopSummerHunger.org.

I’m inviting hockey fans to team up with the Food Bank for the ‘Goal to End Hunger’ challenge. Donate now to help show Vegas what Carolina can do.

The landmark gift comes as hunger has reached its highest point in a generation – with more families facing food insecurity today than the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic

According to the USDA, more than 168,000 school-age children and teens are food insecure across Central and Eastern North Carolina — and the situation has only worsened with ongoing economic disruption over the past year. With school out soon, ,any parents and caregivers will have to come up with 10 or more additional meals per week, making the summer months among the most challenging times of year to keep food on the table.

Every dollar provides three meals for our neighbors – and helps get the Food Bank closer to victory. Let’s help Carolina win on and off the ice!

In response, the Food Bank network hosts dozens of no-cost meal sites to help close the gap. Local community centers, churches, and summer camps offer free meals, snacks, and to-go options to kids and teens — alongside outdoor recreation and reading initiatives. The effort augments existing resources offered through 700+ network pantries and food distribution sites that are also open to families with school-age children. So shether you live in a major city or a remote rural area, chances are there are resources near you this summer.

With disruptions to federal food supplies and steep cuts to hunger relief programs, the efforts of local donors, volunteers, and advocates are more important than ever. This work isn't possible without generous community support!
