Help Protect SNAP Grocery Support for NC Families
We need congress to make simple changes *this month* to protect SNAP grocery support.
Over the past several years, hunger in North Carolina has reached levels not seen in decades. More than 1.4 million people in our state rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table — including children, seniors, veterans, and workers earning low wages. Meanwhile, food banks and local partners are serving record numbers of households, and emergency food providers are already stretched beyond capacity.
Federal policy changes — including implementation timelines tied to new SNAP cost-sharing requirements and Quality Control sampling periods that were disrupted by the government shutdown — could undermine access to SNAP benefits for families who depend on them most. Without administrative adjustments in the upcoming Continuing Resolution, hunger will worsen in our copmmunity and overwhelm community partners who simply cannot fill the gap left by disruptions to SNAP.
