Help Protect SNAP Grocery Support for NC Families

Over the past several years, hunger in North Carolina has reached levels not seen in decades.Ā

More than 1.4 million people in our state rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table — including children, seniors, veterans, and workers earning low wages. Meanwhile, food banks and local partners are serving record numbers of households, and emergency food providers are already stretched beyond capacity.

New federal policy changes could make matters worse by undermining access to SNAP benefits for families who depend on them most.Ā

This includes implementation timelines tied to new SNAP cost-sharing requirements and Quality Control sampling periods that were disrupted by the government shutdown.Ā

We need congress to make simple changes *now* to protect SNAP grocery support.

Without administrative adjustments in the budget debate that's being finalized now, hunger will worsen in our community. WIthout action, the situation could overwhelm local partners who simply cannot fill the gap left by disruptions to SNAP.
