Amplify Your Impact with PORCH Communities

Neighbors are coming together to fight hunger at the local level — and our friends at PORCH make it incredibly easy to have a huge impact.

Our incredible partners at PORCH Communities fight food insecurity by creating sustainable hunger relief programs at the local level.

Started in 2010 in Chapel Hill, PORCH has grown into a repeatable model of monthly neighborhood food drives that supply our network of 700+ food pantries, no-cost markets, and school-based programs. Their model makes it as easy as possible for neighbors to come together and amplify their impact through monthly food drives. Once you're set up and choose a date, all you have to do is help collect donations from front PORCHes with your local hunger relief organization!

Learn more about PORCH

PORCH makes it easy.

  • The model is simple, with monthly neighborhood food drives help stock our network of local food pantries.
  • Guidance is given each step of the way, including start-up guides and training, an online resource center, and marketing support.
  • You won’t be alone; you’ll be part of a team dedicated to fighting hunger and making your community a better place to live.

PORCH works.

  • PORCH is easy. Donors just need to leave food on their porches and volunteers pick it up.
  • PORCH is consistent. Monthly drives provide an ongoing and stable supply of food to pantries and program participants.
  • PORCH is inclusive. Anyone can help by donating, collecting, sorting, distributing and/or organizing volunteers in as little as a few hours a month.
  • PORCH is flexible. Coordinators can request neighbors donate specific items as required by a pantry or program any given month, best meeting the needs of the pantries and families served.

How our partnership works

The Food Bank network of pantries, no-cost markets, and delivery programs is a lifeline for families who struggle to keep food on the table. Through our partnership with PORCH, volunteer Neighborhood Coordinators collect non-perishable items from nearby porches and deliver them to local hunger relief organizations. It's a major boost to the supplies we provide directly to our network — and tailored to the specific needs of hunger relief organizations in your community!

Volunteers with the Food Bank / PORCH partnership make a major difference in as little as three hours a month by helping to:

  • Spread the word about PORCH through word of mouth, social media, neighborhood newsletters, etc.
  • Collaborate with one of our local pantries or no-cost markets to support specific food needs
  • Encourage neighbors to donate a bag of non-perishable food each month on the day/date you choose
  • Assist in the delivery of collected donations to your local hunger relief organization
  • Share results and lessons learned to build a stronger  community!
