Your Support Empowers Women Experiencing Hunger

Ā

Women, and especially single mothers, are at a greater risk for hunger due to the ever-present wage gap and the rising cost of healthcare, housing, and childcare. These challenges and disparities result in poor health, higher rates of hunger, and broader barriers to success.

Everyone deserves a fair opportunity to put food on the table and care for their health and their families’ well-being — no matter our gender, race, or ethnicity. That’s why supporters are coming together throughout Women’s Month to break down barriers and narrow the gender hunger gap. Every gift made through March 31 will be matched to DOUBLE the impact for women facing food insecurity in our region!

Why hunger impacts so many women

Gender Wage Gap In 2023, women’s earnings were only 83% of men’s. The average woman must work nearly 15 full months to make the same amount a man does in a year, doing the same job. *Data Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Ā

Access to Direct Support Only 82% of families eligible for direct grocery support through SNAP (sometimes called FNS or Food Stamps) and WIC (Nutrition for Women, Infants & Children) receive them due to barriers to enrollment. *Data Source: 2024 American Academy of Pediatrics

Ā

The Pink Tax The average woman will spend up to $18,000 on feminine hygiene products over her lifetime. These products are not covered by government-funded programs like SNAP and WIC. *Data Source: National Organization of Women

Pressure For Single Mothers Nationwide, 1 in 4 households headed by single women fall below the poverty line — nearly double that of single men with kids. Meanwhile, the average cost of childcare is up more than 29% over the past three years. *Data Source: U.S. Department of Agriculture
