Senior Programs

Thanks to longtime community partnerships, the Food Bank provides nutritious food and support to area seniors year-round.

Although food insecurity affects people of all ages, seniors are particularly vulnerable as they work to meet nutritional needs related to aging and medical conditions with fixed, limited incomes. After a lifetime of contributing to society, more than 43,000 seniors across central and eastern North CarolinaĀ area are living on fixed incomes that often force them to choose between paying for healthcare and buying groceries.Ā

Senior Food Boxes

With support from the USDA, the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides a monthly package of food designed to supplement the nutritional needs of seniors age 60+. Distributed at drive-through locations, each box includes a variety of whole grains, protein, dairy and pantry staples, supplemented by fresh fruits and vegetables from the Food Bank. Each month, our incredible volunteers pack and distribute nearly 6,000 packages to local seniors.
