Welcoming Our New Board Chair: Food Lion Vice President David Garris!

David Garris is no stranger to the fight to end hunger.
As a lifelong resident of eastern North Carolina, David is committed to building a future where no one has to face the impossible choice between dinner and rent. And with nearly two decades of leadership in food industry operations, he brings both practical perspective and long-term vision to our work to provide nutritious food to local families while tackling the tough issues that drive hunger in our communities.
Through dedicated service on the Food Bank's Greenville Regional Council and our Board of Directors, he's been a longtime advocate for cross-sector solutions to our growing hunger crisis. And in his role as Food Lion's Vice President in the Mid-Atlantic Division, David has played a leading role in pairing Food Lion stores with local hunger relief organizations ā maximizing impact across food donations, volunteer opportunities, and community giving.Ā
In addition to these critical retail partnerships, David has played a leading role in the regional efforts of Food Lion FEEDS, the charitable arm that has donated more than 1.5 billion meals to hunger relief networks since 2014. The impact in our community cannot be overstated: in the past year alone, Food Bank pantries and meal sites Ā received enough food and supplies from Food Lion locations to fuel over 10 million meals!
Cross-sector leadership like David's is needed more than ever.Ā
Over 607,000 people in our area are facing hunger, including 168,000 kids. Thatās 1 in 7 people you pass in the grocery store, at work, or in your neighborhood. But we believe thereās nothing this community canāt overcome when we work together ā and Food Lion has long stood hand-in-hand with our hunger relief network to help stem the tide.Ā
ā Amy Beros Food Bank President & CEOEvery pantry I visit, without fail, someone brings up Food Lion. A story about an associate who went above and beyond. A load of protein that showed up right when they needed it. A relationship that feels real, not transactional. Thatās the kind of partnership David Garris and the Food Lion team built with us. We are so grateful for the work they do every single day to end hunger in our community ā and we're excited to have David leading the charge on our shared mission.Ā

We're proud to continue our long-term partnership with David and the Food Lion team.

ā David Garris Food Lion Vice President, Mid-Atlantic DivisionFar too many of our neighbors don't know where their next meal might come from ā more than 600,000 kids, adults, and seniors in our region alone. But I believe in North Carolina ...and if people understand the challenges our communities are facing, they'll want to do their part. I'm proud to do mine by spreading the message and moving people to act. Because no one should have to go hungry.
Joining David are incoming board members who will help bring this work to new heights as we launch our 2030 strategic plan, Rooted In Community.Ā
Together, we are strengthening community partnerships and increasing access to nutritious food ā all while ramping up efforts to prevent hunger from happening in the first place. We have full confidence that David's leadership will help ensure continued success for the Food Bank as we advance our vision of a future where no one goes hungry.Ā
