Our Statement on USDA Elimination of Vital Hunger Data
We are excited to welcome David Garris, a longtime Food Lion executive, as the incoming Chair of the Food Bank Board of Directors!
David brings 17 years of Operations experience as Food Lion's Vice-President in the Mid-Atlantic Division. We look forward to David's leadership in the fight to end hunger.
As a lifelong resident of eastern North Carolina, David is committed to building a future where no one has to face the impossible choice between dinner and rent. For two years in a row, David helped lead team members from Food Lion FEEDS who volunteered at all six Food Bank branches in just one day. The 2nd Annual 'Food Lion Feeds' Volunteer Day brought together a record-breaking 650+ Food Lion team members across all our locations to nourish our community.
– Kevin Durkee Food Lion ManagerAt Food Lion, we care deeply about the families we serve, and today is about setting them up for success in life. When we come together like this, it’s more than volunteer hours or meals – it’s about helping ease the worry of how someone will put food on the table, helping bridge that gap for a family going through a tough time, and making sure people feel supported in their own communities.

David will help bring our shared efforts to new heights as we launch the first year of our 2030 Strategic Plan, Rooted In Community. Together, we are strengthening community partnerships and increasing access to nutritious food.
We have full confidence that David will ensure continued success for the Food Bank as we advance our vision of a future where no one goes hungry.
– Amy Beros Food Bank President & CEOEvery pantry I visit, without fail, someone brings up Food Lion. A story about an associate who went above and beyond. A load of protein that showed up right when they needed it. A relationship that feels real, not transactional. That’s the kind of partnership Food Lion built with us. We are so grateful for the work Food Lion does every single day to end hunger in our community.
