Food Lion volunteers came from far and wide April 21 to help end hunger across central and eastern North Carolina.Ā

Teammates filled our volunteer centers and outdoor spaces at all six Food Bank branches to sort and pack produce, tend to our community gardens, and prepare nutritious meals through our production kitchen. Some just wanted to give back to the community. Others held memories of receiving food assistance as a child when money was tight. Many were concerned about pending cuts to SNAP and WIC and the impact on local families.Ā

No matter the motivation, hundreds of Food Lion champions came together for a common cause: so that no one has to face the impossible choice between dinner and rent. Ā

At Food Lion, we care deeply about the families we serve, and today is about setting them up for success in life. When we come together like this, it’s more than volunteer hours or meals – it’s about helping ease the worry of how someone will put food on the table, helping bridge that gap for a family going through a tough time, and making sure people feel supported in their own communities.

Through turbulent times, floods, and disasters, Food Lion is there. Ā

Between direct contributions and customer generosity, Food Lion Feeds has invested more than $6 million to help us build a future where no one goes hungry.Ā

Every store is also connected to local pantries and meal sites, providing a steady stream of milk, bread, and other perishable products that help keep our network strong. In the past year alone, local organizations received enough supplies from Food Lion locations to fuel over 10 million meals!

Every pantry I visit, without fail, someone brings up Food Lion. A story about an associate who went above and beyond. A load of protein that showed up right when they needed it. A relationship that feels real, not transactional. That’s the kind of partnership Food Lion built with us. We are so grateful for the work Food Lion does every single day to end hunger in our community.Ā

Thank you, Food Lion Feeds, for your longtime partnership in the fight against hunger!

We're grateful for the many ways you go above and beyond to make sure no one has to face the impossible choice between choosing dinner or rent.

Community partnerships like these are needed more than ever.

Right now, more than 607,000 people in our area are facing hunger, including 168,000 kids. That’s 1 in 7 people you pass in the grocery store, at work, or in your neighborhood. But we believe there’s nothing this community can’t overcome when we work together.

Support from North Carolina businesses, foundations, and community-based organizations is vital to reducing hunger in our community — especially in times of significant disruption and uncertainty. Your investment can be designated to the focus area of your choice and may entitle your organization to recognition opportunities, unique volunteer experiences, and other special benefits. If you’d like to learn more about partnership opportunities, we’d love to hear from you!Ā
