Kim LeQuire is vice president of Kornegay Family Farms and Produce. As a fourth-generation family farm in Johnston County, North Carolina, Kim serves as vice president and oversees departments that include but are not limited to customer service, community relations, and human resources.
Kim is proud to be a part of a growing family legacy that was started in the early 1950s by her grandfather with less than 50 acres. The farm now has over 6000 acres with sweets produced year-round.
Kornegay Family Farms and Produce has been in partnership with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina since 2016. The Food Bank helps the food insecure get affordable and nutritious produce of which the farm usually has a surplus of.
“This is my family’s livelihood and how we have made our mark and where we want to be for a long time contributing to our community, being a part of the food supply, working side-by-side as a family, and offering employment and opportunities to our workforce,” says Kim.
Kim has been very blessed to have very encouraging parents. “They have always believed in me. To also have a partner, who has also been extremely encouraging and supportive is something that everyone needs in their lives. They are the oxygen when you feel like you are smothering from all the demands that are on you.”
A piece of advice Kim always follows as a leader comes from her dad. “He always says you never know unless you ask and that seems so simple, but it has given me the freedom to step out of my comfort zone when talking to customers or trying to learn something new.”
Kim and the Kornegay Family Farms and Produce are very thankful to have this opportunity to not only help others but to keep from having to throw out unused or unwanted produce.
