The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is proud to report that our very own Food Resources Manager, Carter Crain, has won the 2016 Eastern Region Food Sourcing Leader of the Year award!

Carter was honored at the 2016 Food Sourcing and Operations Conference held by Feeding America in Kansas City. There were 17 nominations across the country for leadership awards in three regional divisions (Eastern, Central, and Western). Nominations were submitted by Food Bank staff from the nominee’s own Food Bank or another Food Bank in the Feeding America network. Carter was the only nominee to have more than one submission entered on his behalf!

“It’s unbelievable to be up here with all you innovators,” Carter said, as he accepted the accolades. “You guys are inspirational at this conference every year. Just hearing the cool stuff you guys are doing. It’s always amazing and humbling. Keep doing it.”

Carter then used his moment to shine the light on the staff and partners who help the Food Bank CENC move towards the mission of ‘No One Goes Hungry.’

“We have a great operations team for sure, and we have the most amazing agencies across the country. Our agencies get the mission, they want to push it too – and produce is a big part of that.”

During Carter’s five years as our Food Resources Manager, his team has more than doubled Food Bank CENC’s produce distribution. (Produce was 39% of Food Bank CENC’s distribution in the 2015-16 fiscal year.) As FBCENC’s Food Resources Manager, Carter interacts extensively with members of the food industry to secure food for our partner agencies. He exhibits excellence when sourcing, transporting, and distributing produce to the community. In addition, Carter collaborates with other Food Banks to source food, so that no food donation gets turned away.
