Food Lion has been a stalwart supporter of the Food Bank, providing funding support, food, gift cards, as well as volunteering at our distribution centers. Last month when Durham faced a city-wide power outage, Food Lion called and asked, “How can we help?” They are often the first ones to call when events like this occur. We were so grateful that they were able to provide $20 gift cards to Durham-based food pantries. These cards were then passed on to our neighbors who were impacted.
In December, 60 Food Lion employees answered a last minute call for early morning volunteers. They showed up at 6:15 AM and got right to work packing boxes for our Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). In January, Food Lion employees sorted and packaged vegetables that were the equivalent of 12,000 meals.
In 2014, Food Lion Feeds made the commitment to provide 500 million meals through organizations like the Feeding America food bank network. When that goal was reached, they set a goal to provide another 1 billion meals before 2025. We’re grateful for all the ways Food Lion shows up every day for our friends and neighbors. Thank you, Food Lion, for your commitment to our friends and neighbors facing food insecurity in our communities.
