Established in 2023, The Farmers B.A.G. (where Ag is Black, Abundant & Gifted!) offers unique programs that empower small farmers with the essential business skills needed to successfully manage their farms.
Through active, hands-on learning, participating farmers gain valuable experience in grant writing, Farm Service Agency (FSA) and National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) funding applications, and cost-sharing opportunities. Additionally, students compete in a business pitch competition with cash incentives, providing a launchpad for their innovative ideas.
Farmers B.A.G.’s first cohort of 10 farmers has seen remarkable success, and we’re proud to contract with each of them to grow fresh produce to share with area families facing food insecurity. Your support helps us continue this impactful work, empowering more farmers to thrive and build resilient local food systems.
The Food Bank is committed to addressing longtime barriers and exclusions that have caused wide disparities in hunger and poverty rates across race, gender, and geography. We’re honored to act as the fiscal sponsor of The Farmers B.A.G. as we work together to uproot hunger in communities across central and eastern North Carolina!
Donations to The Farmers B.A.G. are tax-deductible as a sponsored project of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
