Hi! My name is Will and I’m 7 years old.
When I’m at school, I like science and math. But when I’m home, I’m really into Star Wars and Pokémon, and swimming when it’s warm…but the pool’s not open until summer.
A big group of us from school volunteer at the Food Bank. Last time, we got onions from big bins and put them in bags of six so families can cook them at home. We sorted and packed all the onions. I’m pretty sure it was a million onions.
For the little kids who can’t volunteer, my school also has a food drive. People donate peanut butter, cereal, juice boxes, stuff like that. Mac & Cheese is my favorite thing to donate — because it’s delicious.
I also learned that donating money is REALLY important if you want to have an impact right away. Did you know that giving $10 provides 50 meals? The Food Bank gets a lot more for a dollar than people can buy at the grocery store!
That’s why I decided to donate $33 from my birthday and doing chores and stuff. I think it’s important because it helps people get food and other help like shelter.
Hunger has to be stopped very very soon, because the number of people who are hungry keeps increasing.
My class learned that 1 in 5 kids in our area face hunger. That’s not good, but we can make a big difference by giving meals to people here — and make sure the people we elect know what’s going on.
I hope you will donate money and volunteer like my class did. Because when we work together, we can help make sure everyone has the food they need — kids, adults, everybody.
Thanks for helping!
