An Exciting Certification: Service Enterprise by Points of Light

The Food Bank is honored that we have been certified by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service, as a Service Enterprise! Achieving Service Enterprise certification is a prestigious accomplishment, and we are proud to join the top 11 percent of nonprofits nationwide in volunteer management and organizational performance.

Moving the Mission Forward

The Service Enterprise program is a national change management program that provides research backed evaluation, peer mentorship, and coaching to build the capacity of volunteer teams across the nation.  We are so proud of our incredible volunteer team for taking these steps to enhance volunteers’ experience and further our mission, becoming more adaptable, sustainable, and capable of scaling the work of the Food Bank.

“We always say that it is impossible to open our door each day to serve this community without our volunteers- and that has never been more true,” said Peter Werbicki, President & CEO of the Food Bank. “Being recognized by Points of Light will help us continue to support our volunteers and build solutions to end hunger through this vital program.”

A Thank You to Our Volunteers

Our volunteers are truly the lifeblood of our organization and we are so appreciative of all the time they give. Last year volunteers provided nearly 250,000 hours to our organization, an invaluable service equivalent to 122 full time staff members. We simply could not distribute the millions of pounds we do every month without their support and generosity. Our certification signifies that we have the capability and management expertise to strategically use our amazing volunteers to make an even bigger difference, not only in our warehouses, but in our communities.

“Service Enterprise has not only opened us to a network of professionals in volunteer management, but also has provided tools to ensure the Food Bank can provide a meaningful volunteer experience in the most engaging, efficient, and effective way,” says Mary Maxton Fowler (center), Manager of Volunteer Engagement at our Raleigh Branch.
