Hunger can happen to anyone. In our 34-county service area, nearly 300,000 children in our community are in households that struggle to put food on the table. There is a lot of evidence that getting enough nutrition affects a child’s mental and physical development and their ability to do well in school and be healthy. 

SNAP was created to help families in times of crisis whether it is a pandemic, a drought, a hurricane, or an economic recession. But the benefits are not enough to make a difference for many families today, and it is still too hard to qualify for SNAP even in times of crisis. 

On a given day, anyone can lose a job, become sick, or need to take care of a child or family member. SNAP is there to help people afford the food they need to be healthy until they are back on their feet. We hope you will take a moment to read the SNAP stories from a few of our neighbors:
