On the first Tuesday of every month we send a truck full of fresh food to Warsaw Baptist Church, one of our partner agencies in Warsaw. That morning, Pastor David Gasperson, the coordinator of the Warsaw Baptist Church Food Pantry, gathers between 16 and 30 volunteers to put together grocery bags for more than 160 families in need.

“I want to thank everybody for being out. I’m sorry about the rain! I tried to stop it but my powers are limited,” said Pastor Gasperson as he welcomed the volunteers. “We already have 140 families plus lined up… Thank you all for being here. If you weren’t here this morning we wouldn’t be doing this, it’s that simple.”

In Duplin County, more than 10,000 people are food insecure, 40% of whom are children. Within two and a half hours between 160 and 190 people will drive up to the church and pause as volunteers load their vehicle with bags of groceries including fresh produce. “It really is an amazing thing. It’s one of the best going on things in Warsaw,” said Pastor Gasperson.

This food pantry and its team of volunteers work hard to fulfill a real need in the Warsaw community, and we are so thankful for their partnership!
