Rich Commercial Realty dedicated time as volunteers for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.  Established in 1980, the Food Bank works to provide families at risk of hunger in 34 counties. With over 800 partner agencies throughout the state, it is truly a team effort from the staff of all the organizations who participate, to the thousands of volunteers who help with the logistics to get the food and supplies where it is needed most.

Our efforts were going to provide food and needed household items to Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma victims and assist other Food Banks in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. With locations throughout the US, each Food Bank shares a strategic plan to help maintain and expand their services. When natural disasters hit, extra help is crucial. We were proud to be a part of the teams who packaged over 7,200 lbs. of food and supplies, which translates into approximately 6,200 meals for those in need.

Why might you and your company consider volunteering if you have never done it before? Here are a few reasons we believe in the power of community service:

  • Team building. While we always work as a team in the office, this was different. We tend to get comfortable in our everyday roles at work; this took us out of our routine and taught us to work together in a different setting.
  • Along with the other teams volunteering, we all worked together to fulfill one outcome and were proud of the goal totals, which ended up exceeding the average.
  • Opportunity to expose others to this mission and our role as volunteers. Staff encouraged us to take photos of the work we were assigned and share them through our company social media. This helps others to understand the Food Bank mission and encourage the need for volunteers and financial support.
  • Realizing that through volunteering, we can now better understand the needs of our communities. We have been supporters of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina for several years and were glad to continue our financial support. Remember, while just ONE person can make a difference, think about the difference a company can make.
