The Food Bank is thrilled to welcome our new Vice President of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), Mariah Murrell!
We've taken action to educate ourselves and build new partnerships with organizations like AMEXCAN that work to empower LatinX communities.
Because of you, we were able to purchase more food, put more trucks on the road, and establish safety procedures to keep everyone healthy.
Renee’s husband is a farm worker and does not have paid sick leave. When their family had COVID-19, they were devastated by the loss of income. Our local Partner Agency provided them food.
The Food Bank was selected, out of 200 food banks, for dedication to community collaboration and innovative solutions in ending hunger.
Even as the first food bank in the state, I doubt our founders could have predicted how food insecurity would increase and the challenges we would meet along the way.
The projected number of food-insecure people has increased to 756,000 neighbors, with 253,000 being children. That’s approximately a 38% increase.
"Since COVID-19 our small pantry alone is feeding approximately 50 families per week – a 40% increase from our usual number of families."
As we learned more about COVID-19, it became apparent we would have to do things differently. Here's how our Programs Team shifted their operations to ensure good food could safely reach vulnerable populations like seniors and children.
There are people visiting the Food Bank and our partner agencies who have never had to worry about where their next meal would come from, and because of you we are able to help.
